How to Find 100,000+ Web Proxies and the State of Internet Censorship in the U.S.
Written by Noblockingme.com
Thursday, 07 September 2006
It's September and many students are going back to school. One burning technology question has left students flabbergasted for the past decade. The age old question, "How do I get around my school's web filter?", has been answered in a number of ways. Some out rightly condemn the student for asking the question, and tell him to pay more attention to his school work. This answer troubles me the most because it is entirely contrary to the hacker ethic. The student has asked a question, and therefore deserves to know the right answer. Telling him that the filter cannot be circumvented is censorship.

More noble users have cited web proxies as an easy way to thwart the school's web filter. The proxy acts as a buffer allowing the user to gain access to blocked web pages quickly and easily. This method is preferred because it only requires the typing in of a URL into a browser window. Unfortunately, once the proxy is found by the filtering company it will be blocked and no longer allow access by the user.

Students often feel suppressed and stumped by the elusive filtering technology. This should not be the case, as all good hackers know that the human mind is far more powerful than that of a machine. Therefore, this same mind should be able to break away from the chains of censorship by exploiting technology to his advantage. I will show you how to do this.

Problem: Students use web proxies to gain access to blocked sites. As soon as the filtering company or school administration detects them they become blocked and no longer usable. The student needs a way to get passed the filter.

Increase the range of a Linksys WRE54G Wireless Repeater
Written by FemalesLieAlot
Thursday, 31 August 2006
On a casual walk around my apartment I discovered that a neighbor in my neighboring complex was sending their wireless signal into my apartment. After connecting to their unsecured network I realized that it was 4X faster then my current DSL connection. The problem, I could only get a "very low" connection from the wall in my daughter's room. So after some thought I purchased a Linksys WRE54G Wi-Fi range expander. Setting this up at the wall in my daughters room slightly solved the problem by rebroadcasting the "very low" signal throughout my apartment but it still held that title of "very slow" and often dropped the connection. So after some more thought I decided to invest in a cAntenna. The only way to use the cAntenna was to hook it into my laptop and sit in my daughter's room with the cAntenna hanging out the window. Sure enough, I got a "very strong" signal from that. But being forced to sit in a room, surrounded by Dora the Explorer, just to get a faster internet connection wasn't what I wanted to do. I wanted it to be a wireless connection. So I got my cAntenna, spliced it into the WRE54G, aimed it at the neighbor's and BAM! Now I have a "very strong" connection that is repeated throughout my apartment. This is how it's done!

Hack Bluetooth into the Nextel i930
Written by huntingr
Tuesday, 29 August 2006
As you may know, the Nextel i930 Smartphone does not come with Bluetooth. It’s amazing that Motorola did not design Bluetooth into this originally $500 phone.
I-Hacked reader "huntingr" came up with a solution that allows the use of Bluetooth to connect to a wireless headset for phone calls and MP3s. Additionally, with the use of a PC and a Bluetooth dongle, the phone can be used as a wireless modem (additional Nextel data plan & drivers may be required for this). At any rate, the Bluetooth audio service is free and no drivers are needed.

Ok here is the last of the defcon posts (and then back to the hacking)

Want to watch us rip it up at defcon?  SuRbo put together a video of some of our exploits at defcon.  Check it out, and come see us next year! (and buy a T-Shirt!) While you are at it, stop by our Myspace

I-Hacked Staff Hacks 2006 Defcon Hacker Convention

How I Hacked Defcon(Title could use the word "Hack" in there a few more times)

What happens when you place 6,000 of the worlds best hackers in one hotel? Stuff gets hacked, normally the hotel's stuff. This year, Surbo and I wanted to change that -- and this is the story of how we did it. We made the sacrifice to put our lives on hold and go to Las Vegas (yeah it was rough) to mingle with the worlds best hackers. As we got there and checked in we were given the lowlyest of badges, the "General Population" badges -- referred to as the "Human Class". Don't get me wrong, Joe Grand (of GrandIdeaStudios.com) did a great job on the badges, but did I-hacked staff deserve the plain "Human" class badges? We certainly didn't think so, later we will discuss how Joe's design ultimately led to the compromising of Defcon.

OMG I-Hacked Vegas
Written by hevnsnt
Thursday, 27 July 2006

I-Hacked will be in attending Defcon14 in Las Vegas this year.  We will be there Aug 3rd-6th and we will have a whole new set of T-SHIRTS! (more info on that soon)

If you would like to meet me (hevnsnt) or surbo, hunt us down while we are there.... Who knows you might even score a free t-shirt from us. (and maybe a beer or two)  I will be updating The Edge each morning letting you know which briefings Surbo and I plan on attending, and what we are wearing.  I would really love to meet any and all the I-Hacked readers who will be attending Defcon.

If there is any interest, we could probably setup a I-Hacked Meet.  If you are in (or going to be) in the Vegas area and would be interested in a meet, please let me know.   Seriously, if you have any interest, let me know -- because I am not going to set one up unless I get some feedback that there is some interest.  I would probably set something up in a nice "Bar" type forum, so if you are not 21 (and you are still interested) let me know that as well.

Help get the word out by Digging this story!

Cracking Wifi with Back|Track
Written by a11thecorporati

Ever wondered just how secure your WEP protected wireless network is? Well today I'll show you how to test it. There have been a lot of articles written about this subject already and by now it is common knowledge that WEP is only the barest of security precautions. I'm going to show you how you can test your own wireless network's security using the linux livecd distro back|track. Before we go any further, I feel it necessary to mention two things. The first being the ethics of hacking. Most of you are probably familiar with this subject already but, just to refresh your memory. Second, it goes without saying that this is for YOUR OWN NETWORK TESTING PURPOSES ONLY. Unauthorized access of other people's networks is illegal. If you have problems or questions about anything in this guide, for the love of god use google/wikipedia and look it up first. Don't just start ranting on forums like a moron without doing a little research first. There are probably other people who have had the same problems and solved them already. Ok, parental rant over. Lets get down to the dirty stuff:
