Acer Aspire 5920 BIOS PW locked - 2009/09/05 02:37 I am new here and gave not dealt with a lot of issues concerning the BIOS PW. I bought this laptop base with working MOBO on ebay and fired it up. There was no drive but at least it powered on and I was met with the PW text box. I tried loading the windows disc to install windows on a fresh drive, but the BIOS must be programmed to to boot directly from the drive...I get met with a no NTDLR....hit control, alternate, delete and restart. Hitting F2 just gets you back to the PW test entry and none of the other keys get you anywhere when the splash screen displays. Since there is no OS, there are no other boot options available to me. I have downloaded the PW cracking programs but am unsure how I am going to be able to install them with no booting and no other boot options available. I took the laptop apart and this laptop does not have an RTC battery attached to the motherboard. It must have some sort of generator/capaciter soldered onto the board at some point and I was unable to see anything that resembled jumpers. If anyone has an idea of where I can go with this I would appreciate some input.

Re:Acer Aspire 5920 BIOS PW locked - 2009/09/06 22:36 From what I have read so far, usually on acer's there happens to be a bank of dip switches next to one of the memory banks. Check out this article.

Re:Acer Aspire 5920 BIOS PW locked - 2009/09/07 03:22 Thanks, I was researching a service manual Acer techs have and on some of their laptop motherboards there is Gap Pos contact with a designation G10 as seen written on the motherboard. This is on the processor side right and lower if the processor is toward the top. You are to use a electrical shorting tool, I would imagine some sort of jumper wire and short the two contacts in the designated area. While holding the jumper on these points you are supposed to power up and wait for the computer to get to the bios and finish posting. You are then suppose to remove the jumper tool and restart.

Re:Acer Aspire 5920 BIOS PW locked - 2009/09/07 18:36 That may be the case. I can't confirm that without looking into the manuals or looking at the chips on the motherboard. Please be very careful if "shorting" points together, especially if they are not specifically labeled on the motherboard. If the points are close together, the easiest method is to use a screw driver (I use that all the time on ATX pc's to reset the CMOS or to power it on).
