ok, i've become fairly good at the thin strips of metal one, and an working on the beer can one. i find that the beer can one works well if you use something stiffer, like the lid of a soup can. a pair of needlenose pliers work well to bend them both into shape, and to cram them into the lock, especially the first one. one kind of has to find a balance between strength of the shim, and it's thickness. i have probably 20-30 of the little strips of metal made, all sorts of different kinds of tin, and i'm just figuring out the shims, they seem to like to bend at the base of the shim itself.... more posts as events warrant. hope this helps.
