MIRT component questions - 2005/09/18 21:32 I'm pretty new to the electronics/soldering thing but I'm learning quickly! I made the IR assembly and tested it - it works fine. The timing circuit works too - at least, the green LED I have connected to it is blinking. I thought I'd made the power circuit correctly, but I'm not sure.

My questions are:

1. How do I identify the pins on the large power transistor (Q2 in the schematic, 2N3055)? The data sheet on mouser.com shows that the two pins sticking out of the bottom are 1 and 2, the base and emitter. It also seems to say that the body of the transistor itself is the collector. Seems odd, but there ARE only two pins. But how do I tell the difference between the two pins? The schematic doesn't give any identifying information.

2. Between which two pins of the pot should the resistance be 98 kOhms? I remember from my EE classes in college that it's between the middle pin and the end one, but does it matter which end one? I didn't think so but my multimeter says that there are different resistances between the middle pin and each of the others.

3. Finally, I was wondering if anyone had a picture of their finished product. I have actually made mine from a plug-in breadboard because I didn't know how to wire multiple things together. I'm sure it's super simple - this is just because I don't have tons of experience in this.

Thanks!
