PSP Font Mod - 2006/03/24 06:33 Font Mod Guide
written by CodedChaos

Maybe you've seen this maybe you haven't here's what it looks like (varies depending on the font you choose)

***UPDATE***: This project has been ended due to the fact that in my attempts to make this even better, I fucked my PSP. What this guide has in it IS SAFE! I would also like to thank adrelith for testing to see if this works on 2.60 Firmware, it doesn't hurt the PSP, but it doesn't work either. I was going to test 2.00 Firmware, but I'm unable to now, if you have a 2.00 PSP that can test the SINGLE (SAFE) font mod, e-mail me at CodedChaos@i-haked.com and I'll help you with testing/ answer any questions you may have.

materials needed: (links for ALL of these, except a font, are at the bottom of this guide)

PSP with 1.50 Firmware
a firmware dump, version doesn't matter
ttf2pgf
FlashMod V3 W/Font Installer
a ttf font
and afew min

Part 1: copy the following from the firmware dump:

ltn0.pgf
ltn1.pgf
ltn2.pgf
ltn3.pgf
ltn4.pgf
ltn5.pgf
ltn6.pgf
ltn7.pgf
ltn8.pgf
ltn9.pgf
ltn10.pgf
ltn11.pgf
ltn12.pgf
ltn13.pgf
ltn14.pgf
ltn15.pgf

these are in flash0font of the dump

make a folder in root of ur C disk called "fontmod"

put the ttf font you want to use in the "fontmod" folder

put ttf2pgf in the "fontmod" folder

Go to Windows start button, click Run, type "cmd" without the quotes and press Enter.

type the following into command prompt box

cd c:fontmod

then press Enter and type:

ttf2pgf urfont'sname.ttf ltn0.pgf

Here's a screen shot of what the commands look like

Part 2: copy the fontmod folder to your PSP's root (note: you can get rid of the ttf2pgf files and the ttf font file)

Now, put FlashMod on your PSP (if you dont know how to do this, then font swapping is something you shouldnt try yet...)

Now, disconnect USB so u can start Flash Mod

Part 3:

Start Flashmod

choose the XMB (Cross Media Bars) choice

then select "Install custom fonts"

you'll see at the bottom a dialoge that's telling you how the flash is going, if it says failed a bunch, you may want to double check that you did follow the instructions.

If you do not see "failed" a bunch then congrats! go ahead and exit FlashMod.

You're done!

Note: this mod CANNOT BRICK YOUR PSP, the worst it can do is corrupt your system settings which the PSP can repair in a second.

Firmware dump (it works fine, I used this one because it was easy to get)

Note: if one of the QJ.net sites fails to load, just refresh the page a bunch, they seem to be having server troubles...

PS: if you want to use this guide somewhere else, you are welcome to! but please, give me credit

edit: looks like QJ has fixed their problems, all links should work 100% now.

Re:PSP Font Mod - 2006/03/25 03:47 gracious (hehe spainish)

I plan to add the following to this guide:

PICTURES!!! WOOOT!!!!

Adjust Font size and Shadow depth

also I'm working on a way to have a different font for each langauge(inspiration from the way you get custom backgrounds on a 1.50 psp), example

English - Arial
Spainish - Times New Roman

Obiviously, you'd use cooler fonts than Arial or TNR, but those were just examples I could think of.

Also, here's the font I used in the guide, Bring Tha Noise

Re:PSP Font Mod - 2006/03/25 05:12 updates:

Pictures for guide- only questionable part of guide has a screenshot now.

Font Size adjustment- complete, will be added to guide soon, yes, its safe -.-

Shadow Depth- working on it... *Update*: discontinued, no psp

Having multiple fonts, selection via langauge choice- its not looking good, I'll still see if I can make it happen, dun get ur hopes up. ***UPDATE*** Project abandoned, no psp.

but, to make up not having any real updates, I'm uploaded some cool fonts you guys can try. go to http://www.codedchaos.com/pspfonthack/font

here are the fonts that I've uploaded

FirstOrder
Free Style Script
Interplanetary Crap
Kometenmelodie 2
Mistral
Old English Text MT
Still Time
Perfect Dark BRK
Dope Jam
7th Service Condensed

Re:PSP Font Mod - 2006/03/25 06:52 contrary to my original belief, working to find a way to use multiple fonts can indeed brick your psp.

Remember! I bricked mine trying to make the multi-font thing work, the single like my guide shows, is not dangerous.

No psp now
