locating police cars - 2006/12/27 03:15 Every police car I see has at least 4 antennae. Some sort of signal must be coming from every car all the time. It would be useful to know if a cruiser is nearby. Are there any receivers able to locate police car signals (and I don't mean radar or lidar) and give a location based on signal strength? I have no intention of using this information to break the law. Thanks.

Re:locating police cars - 2006/12/27 06:19 I know there is some way to do it because when I was living in Japan you could get these little sirens that went off on your dash when a cop car was in the vicinity. When the siren wasn't on everyone drove crazy I don't know anything technical about them sorry, but at least now you know it's possible "Our Generation has had no Great war, no Great Depression. Our war is spiritual. Our depression is our lives..."

Re:locating police cars - 2006/12/30 05:59 I have heard of a device called a COPS detector. Apparently some radar detectors have it built-in. It reacts to the frequencies used by the low-power communication that records the officer's voice in the car. I don't know what range it has, but it apparently records all of the officer's voice activity for use later if need be.
