Memory Card Data Recovery - 2007/04/18 07:05 I work in a retail store where I occasionally have customers come in with cameras or whatever and have data they need to copy to something else.

Anyone know of a program that would quickly copy data from a memory card and save it to a thumb drive, or whatever, PLUS make an extra copy for me to check out later? A program that can recover previously deleted files would rock too!

Any programs I've found have to be paid for, and I would rather use a free utility if there is one that works well.

I have a 4gig drive that would have plenty of room for backing up an entire hex dump of someone's memory card. It would be awesome if a utility could copy an entire card, then analyze it later for deleted info.

Re:Memory Card Data Recovery - 2007/04/20 06:30 Well, if a customer deletes a file on a memory card(or any solid state media), they have until the next write cycle to recover it, otherwise it's gone forever. What I mean by this, is if they delete a file, pop the SD card back in their camera, and take a picture, the file they deleted IS GONE FOREVER. I have actually tested this for myself with my flash drives and recovery software.

as for the "smash and grab" of their memory card... you could EASILY make a batch file go in, and copy all files from their drive, and dump em to another drive. If you need it made, feel free to reply to me at *removed due to random emails*. I will generally get back the same day ( i'm a little slow right now because it is "hell week" (finals) at school.)

Re:Memory Card Data Recovery - 2007/04/20 07:25 yeah but he wants a hex dump, to recover deleted files.... not just the existing ones.
