Fun with Call Forwarding.. - 2005/04/17 01:31
Many people know what 'Call Forwarding' is, but not many realize the power of some tricks that you can do with it. I will list a couple here..
To activate Call Forwarding on most phones, dial *72, then the number you want to forward to. You can use a number such as a pay-by-the-minute chat service. Now when you call the person's cell phone, you will be forwarded to the number you programmed in. The forwarding phone will be billed all of the charges! It will work until the person discovers what is going on. Usually a friend calls and can't figure out what is going on, so tells the other in person and they call the phone company.
"No Answer Transfer" is even more fun! Dial *68 (NOT *86) and then the number you want to transfer to. When you get a phone call, your phone will ring. You can now let it ring or ignore it until VoiceMail would normally pick up. With No Answer Transfer activated, you no longer have voicemail. It will instead connect to the other phone number that you typed in. This service is AWESOME if you are getting prank calls! Just activate it and use the phone number to your local police or Sheriff's department. When you see the offending phone number (or more commonly 'Private', 'Unavailable', or whatever other message you phone shows when caller-ID is blocked), just hit ignore and the prank calls magically stop! This is great for messing with ex-girlfriends, or just about anyone!
To turn of Forwarding or No answer transfer, just type the number again and then '0'.
I'm sure folks on I-Hacked can think of some ingenious uses for these two commands! Just remember, they both use YOUR airtime, and can still be traced. The phone company uses a different service (called ANI) to track phone calls. It is different than regular caller-ID and cannot be turned off or modified!
