CPU Advice - 2007/06/14 00:50 How necessary is Thermal Paste to the safe operation of a Core 2 Duo 1.8Ghz Processor? Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to
build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying
to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning.

Re:CPU Advice - 2007/06/14 06:54 are you asking if you should use it or just use the cpu/ hs/f without it, cause it definitely is needed, youll prolly fry you shit if you dont use it.

Re:CPU Advice - 2007/06/14 21:59 it depends, i believe the stock intel cooler (the round one with the fan) has thermal paste already on it, you just stick it on.
if it doesnt have the paste, you DEFINITELY need some. it allows the cooler to work a LOT more efficiently.
if you're just testing the processor for a few seconds, it's not necessary, you just need hte cooler, it's better for a mess if you plan on taking it off.
a lot of aftermarket coolers, like the gigabyte one i have, come with thermal paste, but if you're choosy (about a few degrees) you should use Arctic Silver, it's the best thermal paste out there.

Re:CPU Advice - 2007/06/18 11:58 I run a 1.8GHz Core 2 with the stock fan and no extra paste. The stock came with some then the fan pops on top and the two case fans take care of the rest. My PC runs at a constant room temp, and the processor has never overheated or crashed. I wouldn't waste money on any aftermarket thermal paste unless your CPU fan didn't come with any.
