Re:so, i softmodded my xbox. - 2008/04/28 07:48
I personally have upgraded my hard drive (80 gb) with a softmod. But to access anything over 137, you must use a newer installer (newer than Ltools) because of the LBA patch. If you are planning on upgrading the hard drive, BE SURE to check the xbox linux page for compatable hard drives. Not all drives are xbox compatible (they do not support drive locking, which is required for softmods).
Warning: if you start getting random lockups and hangs... stop what you are doing, ftp in, and grab ALL data. Your hard drive may be dying if it is a stock one(western digitals are notorious!)... I did not take notice of the signs (slight noise, and the lock ups). That is why I am now having to put a chip in mine (messed up a softmod with the 80 gig, and dont want to have to reburn XBhdm).
sidenote: anyone interested in helping compile the xbox "goodset"? (I have roughly 50 games to start with). The only downside to the goodset... will total almost 4TB if completed... BTW, is there a better compression scheme than 7zip... anything to cut down those xiso sizes...
