Wfi Preditor - 2008/07/24 01:23 OK, so here's the thing, great idea by the way, but i plan on building a SUPER wifi preditor/point-to-point wifi connection. I plan on building two of these with a 24dbi parabolc grid antenna instead of the yagi and set one in preditor mode (ny house) and one in just the AP mode with DDWRT v24 (friends house) and point them at each other. just under 3.5 miles, the way the crow flies, i dont have a broadband ISP out here. does something like this sound possible?

Re:Wfi Preditor - 2008/07/26 01:03 well, you'll have to figure out things like how much gain and transmission power you need, the loss due to sheer distance, what if anything is getting in the way causing scattering, absorption, refraction and the like... you need to know how much power you need at either end to be able to get a decent data rate... then you have to factor in "extra" signal strength in case the signal deteriorates, like if it rains...
