Having Trouble with Wifi Predator - 2009/02/06 20:47
Hi there. I just became a new member of this site and this will be my very first forum post! WooHoo!
Im hoping someone out there can help me out with this "Wifi Predator" project I got on this site.
I purchased all the neccessary hardware that was recommended for the build. I relashed the router successfully and assembled the predator according to the specs.
It works!...but not for very long. My wireless card connects to the router and I have successful internet access but ONLY for about 3-5 minutes then it crashes or loses the signal etc...
Having the recommended "Yagi" antenna installed I thought might make it hard to connect since it's so directional and needs to be almost perfectly aligned with the access point.
See theres a restaurant my friend owns about 1/4 mile from my house. He has an open wireless hotspot there. Im trying to connect to it. (with his permission of course
I did some more searching around on the site I purchased the antenna from (Hyperlink/L-Com).
I found a 2.4ghz 24DBi Grid-Antenna that I thought would work better being that it wouldn't have to be pointed so precisely....just pointed in the general direction of the signal.
However, it dosen't seem to help at ALL! Anyone have any tips on what might need to be changed? Anything wrong with the settings that I have in the router that need to be altered for the new antenna
The salesman at Hyperlink said that this antenna it good for at least 1 mile range but has seen it connect as far as 1 1/2 miles! So I'm sure the antennas not the problem just a setting is off or something.
Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! Thanks in advance, Jeff
