Help regarding my cable modem.. - 2005/03/15 22:44
Any cable installers, or anyone fluent in cable systems?
I had a problem with my cable modem resetting every hour or so. It would take about fifteen minutes to turn back on, unless I unplugged it and plugged it back in.
The cable guy came today when I was at work. I now have a new cable modem, and some contraption under my desk. The guy took the cable line and has it connected to a device that I have identified as a Digital Plus Directional Coupler VSMDP - 4dB.
The weird thing is that the cable in is connected to the IN port, the cable to the modem is connected to the TAP port, and a TR75LT Lockinator was just hanging from the OUT port of the coupler. I have discovered that the "Lockinator" is some sort of security device, but I cannot figure out why it wasn't tightened (it fell off the coupler when I was looking at it), and why there was nothing connected to the other end of it.
My wife was here when the cable guy was working, and she says he mentioned something about there being static on the line, but why would he replace the cable modem if it was just static?
