limited guest accounts - 2006/07/15 09:13 Is there any way to put on a sort of "Limited Account" for the i-hacked forums?
I was thinking something along the lines of allowing members to invite one friend, and that person would be able to post in the open forums (not the Members Only section, just that which the public can view. I decided it was a good idea to not simply turn on guest posting, because it would crowd the forums with spam and useless posts, not to mention the fact that it would remove one of the perks of being a member.
But if a mamber invites someone to have a limited account, then they gat a taste of what things are like moreso, and it might convince them to get a membership and see what is in the members only section.
Also, i'm sure there are a lot of non members that have a lot to contribute to the forums, but are unable to post it. I personally have had this problem on several forums.
It will most likely also get the word out more about i-hacked, too.
If this means that there will be more members posting and a need for more moderators, i can volunteer for that if it is needed as well, as i am online often.
It's just a thought to toss around, any ideas or suggestions?

Re:limited guest accounts - 2006/07/15 09:32 Actually I was thinking of this also, or maybe even a Limited Guest section where they could post. I think if we all (Members) invite a friend that we feel will contribute we'll have double the information on the forums. I would love to Volunteer to be a Moderator and help! I'm online pretty much all the time.

Re:limited guest accounts - 2006/07/15 17:47 I agree with linkin. We should add a Guest Forum for them to post. We don't want the mcrowding the forums that we borwse regularly for godd info with useless junk (eventhough we sometimes find it anyways).

Re:limited guest accounts - 2006/07/18 03:28 but would that be guests, or invited guests? there's a lot of options.
i've seen guest posting on in forums and things have just turned to crap, and i've seen it work very well. having it in one section is better. but in the case of invited guests, i think it would be easier to manage.

Re:limited guest accounts - 2006/07/19 06:47 i don't think anyone should be able to post under the name "guest", if that's what you mean. I like the idea of user accounts who need an invite from a member, and can post anywhere except the member's only section. The members only section would still be limited for both viewing and posting to current members and new members who earn their way in like we did.
