Fon hacking confusion - 2007/03/17 08:58 I have been trying to follow the instructions posted on i-hacked to hack the fon router. i can get it to the point were i type in all that stuff in the ssh putty program but when i go to reboot it with the internet plugged into it, and i try to reaccess the ssh putty program, i type in the ip and it gives me a server error. i don't know why and i am sooooooo confused... i have been sitting here with my other newb friend and we are completely stumped. if anyone has done this with success, could you please email me @ Nickname615@yahoo.com so that i can try to problem solve this and then either thank you for clearing up my newbie confusion or ask you another (probably stupid) question. thanks, Nick

Re:Fon hacking confusion - 2007/03/17 15:38 Can you be more specific? Like what was the step you were on, or what were the commands you last entered?

(btw: I won't be home to reply until 5:30PM central time because I have work, so don't expect another reply from me until then.)

Re:Fon hacking confusion - 2007/03/20 02:05 I was at the end of SSH when the router is plugged in only to the wall. Then i plugged the Ethernet in and power supply and tried to access the SSH again and it will not let me in to the SSH with the Ethernet plugged in. It keeps saying that the network times out. I have also tried to restart the router by pushing in the button on the bottom of the router but won't let it restart. I was wondering if you could give me more information on the SSH when it is plugged into the Ethernet. Or how to restart it. I have coded the beginning SSH with three different routers and they all Get to the part with the SSH with the Ethernet plugged in and the SSH times out and won't ;et me finish the coding.

Re:Fon hacking confusion - 2007/03/20 05:01 umm, just because you connected the ethernet, doesn't mean your ssh connection method changed.

Okay, now, let’s disconnect the FON’s power. Plug in an ethernet cable that will allow it to connect to the internet, don’t worry, it can’t upgrade it’s firmware now.

Plug back in the power cord. You should have ethernet and power cords connected now.

Wait for it to boot..

Connect to “MyPlace” wifi signal, WPA key is S/N on the bottom of your FON.
SSH to 192.168.10.1 on port 22
User: root

Pass: admin

Also, when you reset the Fon with the switch, you destroyed the modifications you made to enable ssh, so you'll need to start from square one.

Re:Fon hacking confusion - 2007/03/20 23:04 Right, i followed the instructions flawlessly... at least i believe. i plug in the cable that will allow it to access the internet and then plug the power cable into it so they are both attatched and then i waited for it to boot, but twenty minutes later, nothing happened. with the first two. the third one we tried connected and my place was accessed and password remembered by the computer and connected and when we went to open putty, it gave an error window saying there was a server error and putty became inactive. we tried many different things to try to get it to read and used the reset button as a last option and figured that pressing it would reset the router and that we would have to start over at square one. But after reseting it many times and trying to access putty again. it gave the same error message. it is very discouraging to try everything you can think of and nothing work. we even tried maybe using putty to load the default setting back on but it didn't work either. is there some step for saving what we tell it so that it does not update that we are missing? as soon as we were done typing all of it in, i just closed putty and figured it saved it itself. and if i do need to save it, can you offer any advice to getting it so that putty will access the router again. we made sure the ip and everything we were typing in were correct and that it matched up. thanks for your time,
Nick
