im not worried about the graphics or the cpu that can be updated

unless you plan to cram the powerpc cpu of a xbox 360 into an original xbox's intel socket, you're outta luck.

No, an xbox cannot play xbox 360 games, it is impossible due to extreme hardware differences, why do you think the list of original xbox games that work on the 360 is so short? Because MS has to emulate the original xbox game engine because the 360 has a powerpc cpu while the original was intel.

Micro$oft for the win! While on PCs they refuse to stop backward compatibility (which would allow for enormous leaps forward in their OS technology) they barely implement it at all in the Xbox. There are factors involved for both sides though in both cases but you still feel a bit cut when the Wii has done so well and you're left running your next gen console and your old xbox.

Sorry for the off-topic vent

Re:playing xbox 360 games - 2007/07/31 23:13 lol powerpc? isnt that mac?
i would kill myself laughing if a 360 had mac hardware.
BTW, the 360 can only emulate if it has the HDD. it has to emulate the graphics of the old xbox (one is nvidia based and one is ATI based i believe)

isnt is just MUCH easier to play on PC?

That, my friend, is the most retarded comment I've heard this week, thank you gregg.

No, PPC is used in all manner of things (yes, macs) it's mostly in new video game consoles due to its lower cost.

I don't know about the graphics card, it'd make sense that they'd change it too (morons.)

And, PC FPS sucks, so no I will not play your crappy PC FPS games.

Re:playing xbox 360 games - 2007/08/02 05:39 the other day at work... i looked at this post... and it was so stupid... i almost cried from laughter
#1. upgrade the processor... first off, if the pinouts were the same... YOU STILL COULD NOT DO IT. It is a BGA processor... not a pin type. THIS MEANS NON UPGRADEABLE... PERIOD. (ok, to be fair, someone with alot of time/expensive machinery COULD technically change the processor...) And even if you did manage to change your processor... guess what. You now have a nice little door stop. Yes... it is a SPECIAL processor. I'm not gonna explain it... look up the work if you don't understand it.
#2. the graphics chips are different... not just a little... ALOT. first off... different brands. second, the output chips are different (old xbox, conexant).
#3. yeah, not the same dvd drive. Old one, IDE, New one SATA.
#4. oh wait, neither is the hard drive... same problem.
#5. hmmm... different controllers...
#6. different boot methods(360 flash, xbox HDD)

so here's the recap. Apple OS X on a pc, POSSIBLE, xbox 360 games running on the xbox, NOT POSSIBLE.
what about emulation of the 360 on the xbox... i propose the emulation of a Pentium 4 Dual Core on a comodore 64. (yeah, also impossible... same scenario).
so if you claim to have seen this... someone either
A). gutted an xbox, and put a 360 inside
. had xbox media center with the 360 dash skin running
C). turned the xbox on, and had the 360 hooked to the tv.
