Cell Phone as True Modem Help - 2009/06/09 20:14 Hey guys. I can't afford a data plan for my cell phone, so I got to thinking... would there be a way to connect my phone's audio jack to my computer and use a piece of software to convert all my traffic into audio that can be sent over the voice line to another phone at home? and just use that as a bridge instead of getting a tethering plan? The data I need is small, so speed wouldn't really be an issue.

Since I'm a ham operator, I've thought about using packet radio, but I have no idea where to get started. Not to mention, sending data from a mobile 50 watt radio won't get me over 60 miles, and I would have to get another transceiver for that setup to work. Any help would be appreciated.

Re:Cell Phone as True Modem Help - 2009/06/09 21:33 Just thought that I would share that I found "HamScope"

http://www.qsl.net/hamscope/

So far I can send text from one machine to another by a single audio cable. This should at least be a start. If anybody happens to know anything more, or might have better software, please feel free to share.
