Installing the Xbox Modchip: SMARTXX - LT OPX Print E-mail
Written by surbo

I know you have heard about the new modchip SMARTXX - LT OPX, so here is a Step-by-Step tutorial to install this modchip into your xbox.

The SmartXX LT OPX is the first chip designed specifically with the v1.6a and x1.6b Xbox in mind (SmartXX LT OPX is compatible with all versions 1.0-1.6b), making it easier to install and more stable for the novice and professional alike. Its revolutionary design challenges the very way we have installed all 4th generation chips, by completely bypassing the pinheader on 1.6 version Xboxes. However, do not worry... the LT OPX still features a pin header install and is more compatible than ever before, even with current solderless adapters!
Review-  This is the first time I have used a chip so - I wanted my first time to be special =-).

Pros-
Quick Install - Price - Easy Menu Setup- Very Smart Chip -Don't worry about a bad flash on this chip.

Cons-
Could be a tricky install for a new-b

OK the good stuff.
 -  Remove the  (4) feet from the bottom of the box.
Below you will see  the 6 screws that are on the bottom of the box.  (Two of them are under stickers)
Use a  Torx 20 to unscrew these screws.

If you want the BOX to look stock use a hair dryer to heat up the sticker glue and lift carefully .
Don't apply to much direct heat

Use a Torx 10 - to remove the screw that is under the cable ribbon. "red and yellow circle"
On the hard drive unhook the pwr cable and ribbon. Where the red dashes are unhook any wires and
remove the hard drive from the box.

Use the same 10 Torx to remove the screws near the DVD rom.  (the red circles)
Remove the DVD rom from the Xbox and remove any cables that are attached to the mother board.
(I hope you know what a mother board is!!)

Remove 11 screws with the 10 -Torx. (In Red)  Remove any wires plugged into the board. (Marked with
yellow boarder. (Be smart don't just pull wires out.)
Remove the board from the case.

Ok we have the board out -  flip it over

Time to install the chip

Imagine that the chip was red.  This is where it would rest.

I am not going to go into where to solider the points on the chip.  I am going to give you tips.

First since this box was a 1.6 we must remove the pin header

BEFORE:

AFTER:

Find the locking points on the board.  This means where the chip should sit before you solider it

Some of the points are very small so this is a nice trick..
Take a thin piece of wire and remove the outer plastic.
Take the striped wire and make it into an L shape.
Solider the L shape to the point on the board with the bottom of the L on the board
Next add a little solider to the chip where the wire is touching.
You can cut off any extra wire that is left.  What the wire does is act almost like a
slide for the solider to find a path from the chip to the board.

Once you have installed the chip and put the box back together its time to flash the bios.

After you boot the box back up and you see the welcome screen you should see this new screen.

As you can see if you have a network setup and you have the network cable plugged in an ip will show in the bottom right

What you are now ready to do is flash the chip with a new bios "maybe -linux" via the NETWORK

You will need a program named "PC SmartXX Remote Flasher  (PC-Software"

From the remote flasher you would need to click the Search XBOX.
It will show the Xbox that is on the network.
Next you will want to flash the chip with the bios of your picking
Hit the Load Bios button and find your 256k bios and Hit Flash Bios
Since this is a 1.6 box makes sure you use a bios that is specific to your box version.

Once you hit the Flash Bios button you will see this screen.

Congratulations  you have Installed a SmartXX LT OPX

Please note that you can also update your OS version on the chip via the PC SmartXX Remote Flasher  (PC-Software
Current version : 3333
