Running Homebrew software on 1.5 PSP |

 Using a newly released software (Kxploit) by the psp-dev crew, we are finally able to run Homebrew software on our American PSPs without any swaptricks. Japanese PSPs have been able to run software due to a discovered flaw in the 1.0 firmware, unfortunately the American PSPs came with v1.50 firmware which fixed the hole. Now we can use a software named Kxploit to FINALLY RUN HOMEBREW SOFTWARE on our 1.5 PSPs, without any SWAPTRICKS!! The following article will show you how, step by step.
First you will need:
- A PSP with firmware version 1.5. (1.51+ DOES NOT WORK!)
- Kexploit software
-or- - Pre-configured software. I have already converted emus of:
Step 1: Convert your homebrew according to the instructions found in Kxploit. Since we will be using preconfigured homebrew (from above) we can skip this step.
Step 2: Connect your PSP to your computer to access the Memory Stick and place the homebrew software. I will be using a standard USB-A to USB-MINI B cable.
Once it is connected, you will need to turn on your PSP and from the main menu select USB Mode
 
Once it is connected, on your computer browse to your PSP. On my computer it came up as being E:
From now on, when I refer to the PSP connected to the computer, I will be referring to it as E: replace the drive letter as required for your setup.
Browse to the e:\PSP folder. Once you are there, you will need to create a "GAME" folder (e:\psp\GAME)
Here is where you will need to place your homebrew software. You will need to make two directorys, one with the name of the homebrew, and one of the name of the homebrew with a % on the end. For example:
e:\PSP\GAME\SNES
e:\PSP\GAME\SNES%
In the directory WITHOUT the %, you place the homebrew EBOOT.PBP file and any of the ROMS that you will need for it, In the directory WITH the %, you place your MODIFIED EBOOT.PBP file. Basically you will be doing a swap, without swapping any memory cards. If you are using the preconfigured software from the beginning of the article, just extract the files in the same directory structure that they are already in, and then copy them over to your PSP. Make sure that you are placeing both the NON % directory and the % directory in the e:\PSP\GAME\ folder. (see example below)
Before you finish this step, make sure you download some roms and put them in the NON-% FOLDER. For example you would place them in the e:\PSP\GAME\SNES\ folder. I don't have any ROMs for download, but you can find them with google.
Step 3: Running the homebrew!
Unplug your PSP from the usb cable, and go to the "Game" section, once you are there arrow down to your Memstick
Select it by pressing "X"
Here you will see 2 folders corresponding with the homebrew you have installed. One being the Homebrew, and one being a "Corrupted Data". Dont worry about the "Corrupted Data" folder, and arrow down to your homebrew.
If you would like to have all of your Programs at the top of the list, and all the "Corrupted Data" files at the bottom, follow this little trick:
When placing your files on the PSP (e:\PSP\GAME\) place them in the order you want them to show up. For example if you are going to put SNS, Genesis, and doom on your psp and you want them in THAT ORDER you would:
Copy:
SNES
GENESIS
DOOM-PSP
to your e:\PSP\GAMES folder
Then you would copy
SNES%
GENESIS%
DOOM-PSP%
to your e:\PSP\GAMES folder. If you have already put the files on your psp and you want to reorder them, just move them off your psp and place them back in the order that you want.

All you have to do now is press X, and you will be playing your homebrew! THANK YOU PSP-DEV!
