PSP 2.50/2.60 to 1.50 Firmware Downgrader Guide Print E-mail
Written by CodedChaos

Recently we reported the the breaking news that Kernel mode in 2.5 and 2.6 had been unlocked by hitchhikr of “hitchhikr SoftWorks” and demo scene group Neural via The Edge. This was a incredible accomplishment that was previously thought impossible. Fanjita and many other members of the PSP homebrew community have come together and been testing the functionality of the proposed exploit.

Using the tools and methods that have been released, we have compiled a "Downgrader Guide" for those of you with a PSP with Firmware of 2.5 or 2.6 who would like to downgrade to 1.50.

Materials need:
  • 2.50/2.60 PSP
-NOTE: IT CANNOT BE A TA-082 PSP, TA-082 refers to the motherboard, here's an easy way to check.
  • Access to a 1.50 PSP or the files available here.
  • Power Cable
  • MemStick greater than 32MB in size
  • Grand Theft Auto: LCS
-MAKE SURE IT ISN'T THE UPDATED ONE WITH THE 2.60 UMD FIRMWARE UPDATE, IT SHOULD HAVE 2.00 ONLY
  • Fanjita's GTA exploit eloader installed (See readme inside file)
  • Balls
  • About 5 minutes
BECAUSE THIS PROCESS WRITES TO THE FLASH OF THE PSP, IT CAN BRICK YOUR PSP, IF YOU CONTINUE, IT'S AT YOUR OWN RISK! DON'T BLAME ME IF YOU SCREW UP.

Downgrading Process

I-Hacked members do not need to follow this step, you can download the files needed here. Once you download the files, please skip to the section labeled 2.50/2.60 PSP.

On the 1.50 PSP

Download the Downdater Helper from HERE
Download the 1.50 Firmware Update Eboot HERE

  1. Extract Both of these into a directory on your deskop.
  2. Put DownDaterHelper and DownDaterHelper% in your GAMES folder (ms0:/PSP/GAMES/)
  3. Make a folder in GAMES (ms0:/PSP/GAMES/) called UPDATE, put the update Eboot in UPDATE.
  4. Discconnect your PSP from USB and go to your homebrew, find DOWNDATERHELPER and execute it.

This process will take about about 5-10 minutes, the program will close on its own when done.

  5. Now, reconnect your PSP to comp via USB. You may delete the UPDATE folder and DOWNDATERHELP and DOWNDATERHELPER%
  6. Go to the root of your memory stick (driverletter:/) you should see a folder called DOWNDATER, copy that folder to the directory on your deskop, You will need these files to downgrade your 2.50/2.60 PSP.

YOU ARE NOW DONE WITH THE 1.50 PSP

2.50/2.60 PSP

  1. Download DOWNDATERTEST (It is now universal for both 2.50 and 2.60) HERE
Password for the DOWNDATERTEST RAR is: I_Use_It_At_My_Own_Risk
  2. Put the folder with EBOOT in PSP/GAME/
  3. Get the DOWNDATER folder from your folder on your desktop that you created in the last step. (I-hacked members this is the file you downloaded) and put it in your memory stick's root.
  4. Connect your PSP to the AC Adapter
  5. Now, start up GTA, open the menu with 'START', then Select 'Load Game'.  Select the eLoader icon from the list of saved games.
  6. In the eLoader menu, find the DOWNDATERTEST program, execute it.
The screen will turn black, the memory stick access light will flicker, that means its working (there is NO graphical indications of progress)
The light with stop flickering after a few mintues, once it has wait AT LEAST 1 minute then shut down your PSP. (Note: the PSP may restart on its own, don't worry, it's fine)

Once its restarted or (or you've now turned it on) you should get a corrupt settings screen telling you to press O, it's what you want to see, press O.

Congrats you now have a 1.50 PSP (again)!
Welcome (back) to the world of easy to use homebrew :)
