Hack Bluetooth into the Nextel i930 Print E-mail

As you may know, the Nextel i930 Smartphone does not come with Bluetooth. It’s amazing that Motorola did not design Bluetooth into this originally $500 phone.
I-Hacked reader "huntingr" came up with a solution that allows the use of Bluetooth to connect to a wireless headset for phone calls and MP3s. Additionally, with the use of a PC and a Bluetooth dongle, the phone can be used as a wireless modem (additional Nextel data plan & drivers may be required for this). At any rate, the Bluetooth audio service is free and no drivers are needed. Step 1:

Purchase a Motorola D600 Bluetooth wireless adapter ($39 at Radio Shack). This adapter was designed to function with the Motorola V and T series phones (Verizon I think).

Step 2:

Using a precision diagonal cutter, trim off the plastic tab edge on the left tab and cut off the center plastic tab AS SHOWN below (this will allow the adapter to connect to the i930):

Be very careful not to damage the gold pins when doing this mod. Also, DO NOT cut off the metal clips (this completes the ground connection and the unit will not work without them!).

CAUTION – Be very careful to modify it exactly as shown in the pics. I ruined one in the process and had to go buy another adapter!

Step 3:

Plug the D600 adapter into the bottom of your i930 phone (you will see a device detected message on your phone’s display), plug in the audio plug into the headset jack on the phone, and pair it up with your headset, now you’re ready to roll!
