Wed, December 31st.  All ZUNES on planet Earth died.  Here is how to fix them.
DO NOT DO THIS ANYMORE.  If you zune is locked up, let the battery die, and then connect to your computer to sync.

First we need to dissassemble our Zune.

1. Start by removing the outer lip of zune sync/power port:

2. Remove the Screws

3. Use a unused credit card to pop open the zune like so

watch out towards the top of the zune, near the head phone jack. Don’t break that part off

4. Once you have the case off you will see ribbon from the battery near the zune sync/power port. (yellow box)

 Unplug the battery ribbon cable.

5. Wait for about a minute before plugging this back in. (Then Put your zune back together)

THE FOLLOWING STEPS ARE IMPORTANT, DO NOT SKIP THEM!

6. Now set your date on your computer to something before today (12/31/08) example 12/12/08. You can do this by double clicking on your clock in your taskbar.

7. From your windows command prompt type: net stop "windows time"
(note you will need quotes around "windows time")

You will have to have admin rights to do this.

8. Connect your zune up to your pc to sync and get the new time.

-woot you have your zune back for now. Make sure you fix your time back after you unhook the zune. If you have to hook it back up make sure you change your time before todays date (12/31/08)

To restart the time service type: net start “windows time” from the command prompt.

Please help spread the word by digging this!

This is just a work around that worked for me – I make no guarantees that it will work, and take no responsibility for you messing up your zune =) Educational ONLY!!
