Using some firmware hacks it is possilble to turn your old 4x DVD-RW to a brand new Dual Layer 8x DVD-RW. For example, I have a Lite-On 451s that I have been thinking about bannishing to the "hand me down" computer and buying a new dvd burner.. However, using this hack I am able to convert this to a Lite-On 832s. Before Model: Lite-On 451s Type: DVD±RW drive Read Speed: 40x (CD) / 12x (DVD) Write Speed: 40x (CD) / 4x (DVD) Rewrite Speed: 24x (CD) / 2x (DVD-RW) / 4x (DVD+RW) After Model: Lite-On 832s Type: Dual-Layer DVD±RW drive Read Speed: 40x (CD) / 12x (DVD) Write Speed: 40x (CD) / 8x (DVD) Rewrite Speed: 24x (CD) / 4x (DVD-RW) / 4x (DVD+RW) Overclocking/Crossflashing by http://codeguys.rpc1.org/oc.html

are actually many more that's supported than what's listed here,
especially involving rebranded drives such as Sony drives; listing all
of them would be cumbersome. Just know that it works for those drives,
too. 401S and 411S users looking for 401S@811S or 411S@811S should use the EEPROM Utility. Crossflashing Instructions Method 1: OmniPatcher (universal method; works for all of the crossflashes listed above)
Method 2: Pre-Patched (only when a pre-patched crossflashing firmware is available)
Note: If a crossflashing-patched firmware is not available for download, please follow Method 1 instead (the crossflashing-patched firmwares that we provide were created by simply following steps 1-3 of Method 1). Method 3: CGxx (only for @832S)

Updating to a Newer Firmware If, after crossflashing a drive, you wish to update to a newer firmware, you must follow one of the procedures listed above! Example: Let's say that you have a 812S drive that you had flashed to a 812S@832S drive using the VS0A firmware. If you want to update to the newer VS0B firmware, you will have to first patch VS0B with OmniPatcher's crossflashing patch before loading it onto your 812S@832S drive! This is because, deep down inside, your 812S drive is still a 812S drive, and thus, any 832S firmware that you load onto your 812S--regardless of what firmware is currently loaded--must be patched! Reverting Back The reversal process does not require the use of the OmniPatcher. Simply download an official firmware from LiteOn's website, and then use the FlashFix tool on the firmware you downloaded. Then, flash your drive. FlashFix is needed only for the initial reversal and is not required for subsequent flashes; once you have returned to a "native" firmware, things would behave as if you had never crossflashed in the first place. Example: Let's say that you have a 812S@832S running VS08, and you want to return to using US0N. You have the official US0N firmware flasher, so you FlashFix it and flash your drive back to a 812S running US0N. If, after returning to US0N, you wish to update to US0Q, you can do so normally, without using FlashFix. |
